Bluemed workshop “Photogrammetry in Underwater Archeology” has been successfully held during the past week at the Inter University Center in Dubrovnik. This workshop was attended by experts in the field of archaeology and underwater archaeology, and the keynote lecturer was Kotaro Yamafune, founder of the Agency for Photogrammetry and Photography for Archaeological Analysis on Terrestrial and Underwater Sites.

The workshop consisted of an introductory lecture on photogrammetry, a lecture on photography for photogrammetry and photogrammetry using video. During the workshop, participants also visited the underwater amphorae and dolia sites at the Bluemed pilot site near Cavtat, after which they worked on photogrammetric models and were eventually introduced to the Sketchfab platform, which allows them to share their models with the general public.

During the past decade, photogrammetry rapidly evolved from a new skill practiced by a small group of devoted experts with right equipment and special software, to a broadly available tool, which can be managed by anybody, with no restrictions regarding educational level, professional background, or virtual modeling experience. Dr. sc. Kotaro Yamafune is helping both terrestrial and underwater archaeological projects and providing workshops in many countries using his photogrammetry skills. He has already successfully held the workshop in Zadar, Tkon and Dubrovnik on several occasions, and has also produced 3D models of the mentioned sites in Cavtat.
