BLEUEMD event - Photogrammetry in Underwater Archaeology

Regional Development Agency Dubrovnik-Neretva County DUNEA in cooperation with the University of Zadar and the Institute for Maritime Heritage Ars Nautica is organizing a workshop "Photogrammetry in Underwater Archeology" within the Bluemed project. The workshop will be held in Dubrovnik, in the premises of the Inter University Center from 25th  to 31st August.

The workshop will bring together many experts in the field of underwater archeology and the leading lecturer will be Kotaro Yamafune, founder of Agency of Photogrammetry and Photography for Archaeological Analysis on Terrestrial and Underwater Sites (A.P.P.A.R.A.T.U.S. Llc). Currently, he is helping both terrestrial and underwater archaeological projects and providing workshops in many countries using his photogrammetry skills.

During the past decade, photogrammetry rapidly evolved from a new skill practiced by a small group of devoted experts with right equipment and special software, to a broadly available tool, which can be managed by anybody, with no restrictions regarding educational level, professional background, or virtual modeling experience.

Photogrammetry is now a common, an indispensable tool, which, in skillful hands, can produce excellent results within the working process for which it is designed. Although technological upgrades continue to improve the hardware, software, and accuracy of photogrammetry recording, the true innovation lies in avoiding over-reliance on photogrammetry, but instead striving to understand its drawbacks and limitations. Simply performing photogrammetry as the end goal of an underwater excavation is not enough.

The deadline for participation is extended to August 5th 2019. You can register HERE
